Description:
This course helps students expand their reading and
writing skills and their ability to use language. It
is especially designed with an emphasis on improving
writing skills.
Course Outline:
Oral:
Discussions, individual presentations, group presentations.
Identify similarities and differences among different
types of media; discuss stereotypes in the media.
Reading:
Choose and read books for information, study and enjoyment.
Writing:
Take notes from texts, videos, group presentations.
Provide short summaries of personal reading –
describe character, plot, setting. Brainstorm and use
graphic organizers to organize ideas. Write creatively
and to describe personal experiences. Use journals to
record events, observations, opinions. Write opinion
and descriptive paragraphs. Follow the writing process.
Social/cultural:
Discuss current events and issues; compare customs of
different cultural groups. Develop study skills to complete
assignments.

you will spend your time:
Class time will be a combination of teacher presentations,
class discussion, individual, pair and group work, and
presentations. The writing process is emphasized. |
