BOG4E, Organizational Studies: Managing a Small Business,
Grade 12 Workplace Preparation, ( 1 credit)

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS COURSE:

The Small Business Environment in Canada

  • Identify personal skills and experiences that could be applied in a small business
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the expertise that skilled professionals (e.g. lawyers, accountants, bankers) can bring into a small business
  • Assess the importance of small business in relation to job creation, types of ownership types of products and services

The Role of Entrepreneurship

  • Establish a relationship between a business plan and the success of an entrepreneurial venture
  • Compare alternative sources of financing for the entrepreneurial venture

Operations Management

Marketing

  • Explain the components of the marketing mix and their associated costs to small business

Financial Management:

  • Explain the role of operating a budget (e.g. sales forecasting, cash flow management, control of expenses)
  • Use the basic elements of bookkeeping as they relate to small business (students will learn how to use Simply Accounting for Windows, version 8 to perform the bookkeeping)

9 weeks, 2 hours per day
