BAN4E, Accounting for a Small Business,
Grade 12 workplace preparation, ( 1 credit)

  1. Understanding the accounting cycle for a merchandising busines:
    Students will examine the transactions, financial statements, gst and pst, adjusting and closing entries for both the periodic and perpetual approaches to the merchandise company.
    .
  2. Specialized journals and subsidiary ledgers:
    Students will look at two manual accounting systems which use a combination of specialized journals and subsidiary ledgers.
    .
  3. The ability to describe payroll procedures:
    Students will be introduced to the payroll language and procedures used in canadian businesses.
    .
  4. Interpreting financial information and analyzing profitability:
    Students will look at various means to analyze a company’s profitability and its long term future.
    .
  5. Computerized accounting procedures using ACCPAC:
    Students will spend approximately half the course examining the computerized accounting program, ACCPAC.

Lectures, homework assignments, hands on computer work

The students get 1 credit after passing the course successfully.
